Types of organic fertilizers

Organic fertilization is essential to maintain soil health and fertility. There are several types of organic fertilizers, each with specific characteristics and benefits. Some of the most commonly used in agriculture are described below.

Compost

Compost is an organic fertilizer obtained from the decomposition process of organic waste such as food scraps, leaves and manure. It is rich in nutrients and improves soil structure, favoring water retention and microbial activity.

Vermicompost

Vermicompost is the product of the decomposition of organic matter by earthworms. This fertilizer is highly nutritious, improving soil structure and nutrient availability for plants.

Peat

Peat is an organic material accumulated in humid environments. It is excellent for improving soil structure, although its extraction can have negative environmental impacts.

Organic amendment

Organic amendments, such as worm humus or mature compost, are used to improve the physical, chemical and biological properties of the soil, increasing its fertility.

Ashes

Wood ashes are a rich source of potassium and calcium. They are useful for increasing the pH of acid soils, but should be used with caution to avoid nutrient imbalances.

Biol Fertilizer

Biol is a liquid fertilizer obtained from the anaerobic fermentation of manure and other organic wastes. It is rich in nutrients and beneficial microorganisms.

Biofertilizers

Biofertilizers are preparations containing live microorganisms, which improve the availability of nutrients to plants by fixing nitrogen, solubilizing phosphorus or decomposing organic matter.

Biosolids from sewage

Biosolids are by-products of wastewater treatment. They are rich in nutrients but must be properly treated to eliminate pathogens and contaminants.

Bocashi Compost

Bocashi is a type of fermented compost of Japanese origin. It is prepared from a mixture of organic materials, including manure, bone meal and ashes, and fermented for a short period.

Green manure

Green manures refer to crops that are planted specifically to be incorporated into the soil to improve its fertility. These crops fix nitrogen and add organic matter to the soil.

At BH Terra, as manufacturers of organic fertilizers in Spain, we promote the use of organic fertilizers for a sustainable and responsible development of agriculture. Our products are designed to meet the specific needs of your crops, while respecting the environment.
